The executive order, signed in the Oval Office, tasks government agencies with identifying positions for potential layoffs and assessing functions that may be entirely eliminated.
Musk, accompanied by his young son, stood beside Trump during the signing, fielding questions from reporters. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, donning a “Make America Great Again” cap, emphasized the necessity of cutting back government spending and reducing inefficiencies. He described the federal bureaucracy as an unchecked power structure that undermines elected officials and hinders effective governance.
“You can’t have a government that operates on its own without accountability to the people,” Musk stated. “The bureaucracy has grown so influential that it sometimes wields more power than the officials chosen by the people.”
Musk’s Role and the Department of Government Efficiency
