Dodgers Secure Impressive 3-0 Shutout Over Cubs to Stay Perfect at Home
LOS ANGELES, CA – APRIL 11: Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani throws sunflower seeds at Tommy Edman to celebrate the three-run home run that scored Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez during the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium on Friday, April 11, 2025 in Los Angeles, CA. April 12 – The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their dominance at home, improving to a perfect 7-0 at Dodger Stadium with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto was the star of the night, spinning six scoreless innings to collect his second win of the season.

Yamamoto (2-1) was in complete control throughout the outing, surrendering only two hits while striking out nine and walking just one. It was the second time this season the Japanese righty had tamed the Cubs’ lineup, and his performance helped the Dodgers record their first shutout of the 2025 campaign. The bullpen finished the job with three scoreless innings, including a clean ninth from Tanner Scott, who notched his fourth save.

Offensively, Tommy Edman came through with the key blow — a three-run homer in the sixth inning off Cubs starter Matthew Boyd (1-1). Boyd had kept the Dodgers off the scoreboard through five frames but couldn’t escape damage in the sixth, ultimately finishing his night after allowing three runs on four hits across six innings.

First baseman Freddie Freeman made his return from the injured list earlier in the day, providing a boost to the Dodgers’ lineup. Though he went 0-for-3 and struck out twice, Freeman managed to cross the plate for a run. Shohei Ohtani had a tough night at the plate, going hitless in four at-bats and striking out twice.

The Cubs, meanwhile, were held to just two hits and failed to generate any serious threats. It marked the first time they’ve lost consecutive games since the opening series of the season — which, coincidentally, also came against the Dodgers in Japan.

Cincinnati Reds 5, Pittsburgh Pirates 3

Jeimer Candelario broke out of a slump in style, ending an 0-for-15 drought with a clutch two-run home run to lift the Cincinnati Reds past the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Candelario’s long ball came during a five-run surge that proved enough to overcome Pittsburgh’s rally attempts.

Brady Singer picked up his third win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on just two hits. He received solid support from the bullpen, as three relievers combined for four shutout innings. Emilio Pagan took care of the ninth inning, securing his third save in three chances.

San Diego Padres 8, Colorado Rockies 0

Nick Pivetta was lights-out for San Diego, striking out 10 over seven dominant innings to help the Padres cruise past the Colorado Rockies. The right-hander allowed only three hits and one walk while keeping the Rockies off the board.

Jose Iglesias had a productive day at the plate, delivering two run-scoring singles during a six-run fifth inning that broke the game open. German Marquez (0-2) matched Pivetta early but couldn’t escape the fifth, ending his outing with six runs (five earned) allowed over 4 2/3 innings.

Detroit Tigers 7, Minnesota Twins 6

The Tigers edged out the Twins in a back-and-forth contest in Minneapolis. Dillon Dingler led the way for Detroit with a 3-for-5 day and an RBI, while Zach McKinstry chipped in with two RBIs of his own. Will Vest (1-0) claimed the victory out of the bullpen, while Tommy Kahnle held off a late push in the ninth to notch his second save, surrendering one run in the process.

Minnesota’s Byron Buxton showcased his power and speed with a home run, two RBIs, and a stolen base, but Jorge Alcala (0-2) faltered in relief, surrendering four runs without recording an out.

Tampa Bay Rays 6, Atlanta Braves 3

Danny Jansen led the offensive charge for the Rays with a 3-for-4 night, including a home run and four RBIs. Taj Bradley was sharp on the mound, giving up just one run across six innings to earn his second win.

Bryce Elder (0-1) took the loss for Atlanta, allowing five runs on nine hits. Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies both homered for the Braves, who continued their recent struggles with their 10th loss in 13 games.

Washington Nationals 7, Miami Marlins 4

A pinch-hit, go-ahead three-run double by Nathaniel Lowe in the eighth inning propelled the Nationals past the Marlins. Lowe was scratched from the starting lineup due to illness but made the most of his late opportunity.

Josh Bell and James Wood each went deep for Washington, while CJ Abrams exited early due to an apparent leg issue. Marlins starter Edward Cabrera pitched well in his season debut, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings but settled for a no-decision.

St. Louis Cardinals 2, Philadelphia Phillies 0

Andre Pallante led a dominant pitching effort for the Cardinals, combining with two relievers to blank the Phillies. Pallante (2-0) allowed just two hits and struck out four across seven scoreless innings.

Yohel Pozo had a three-hit game, including an RBI double. Phillies starter Aaron Nola (0-3) struggled with command, issuing four walks and allowing five hits over five innings.

Milwaukee Brewers 7, Arizona Diamondbacks 0

Jose Quintana made a stellar debut for Milwaukee, tossing seven scoreless innings to help the Brewers shut out the Diamondbacks. Brice Turang sparked the offense with a three-hit performance and drove in two runs, as Jackson Chourio stretched his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games.

Arizona was limited to four singles. Eduardo Rodriguez (0-1) allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings during his outing for the D-backs.

Seattle Mariners 5, Texas Rangers 3

Cal Raleigh hit a game-winning two-run homer in the eighth to lift the Mariners over the Rangers. Jorge Polanco and Rowdy Tellez also homered for Seattle.

Jacob deGrom lasted just four innings for Texas, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks.

New York Mets 7, Oakland Athletics 6

Pete Alonso delivered a standout performance with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Mets past Oakland. Alonso also added a double and sacrifice fly. Luisangel Acuna collected two hits for New York, which has won seven of its last eight games.

Miguel Andujar homered and drove in three runs for the A’s, who dropped to 1-6 at home.

Houston Astros 14, Los Angeles Angels 3

Yainer Diaz exploded for a career night, belting his first grand slam and driving in five total runs. The Astros sent 20 batters to the plate during the fifth and sixth innings, piling up 10 runs in those frames.

Mike Trout homered for the Angels, but their pitching couldn’t withstand the offensive onslaught.

San Francisco Giants 9, New York Yankees 1 (Game Called After 6 Innings)

Jung Hoo Lee’s three-run homer capped a five-run first inning, leading the Giants to a dominant victory over the Yankees in a rain-shortened game. San Francisco drew 11 walks and added six hits before the game was called in the top of the sixth.

Marcus Stroman exited after recording just two outs, surrendering five runs. Rodney Ray (3-0) earned the win.

Chicago White Sox 11, Boston Red Sox 1

The White Sox snapped an eight-game skid with a dominant win over the Red Sox. Omar Narvaez drove in three runs, and Davis Martin (1-1) pitched into the seventh for the first time in his MLB career.

Boston committed five errors, leading to six unearned runs and another disappointing loss.

Cleveland Guardians 7, Kansas City Royals 0

Gabriel Arias had a three-hit game and launched a three-run homer to help the Guardians blank the Royals. Cleveland used five pitchers to scatter five hits and earn its fourth consecutive win.

Kansas City’s offense remained stagnant, as they’ve managed only five runs over their last four games.
